1907 - 1986 Italy

Imprisoned by the fascist regime, in 1941 on the island of Ventotene he wrote the "Manifesto for a Free and United Europe", the founding text of European federalism that later inspired the 1984 draft Treaty establishing the European Union.

Anti-fascist and feminist activist, co-founder of the European federalist movement

1913 - 1991 Germany / Italy

An anti-fascist activist who took refuge in Italy, she helped spread the Ventotene Manifesto and in 1975 founded the "Women for Europe" movement, tirelessly linking the European cause to gender equality.
